The children of Bowe/Collinsville Family Day Care were over the moon when Mr Rubbish Man, J.J. Richards waste collector Andrew Jorgenson, came bearing gifts of Thursday morning during his normal rubbish collection in Mount Julian.
Alfie Wilson (age 4) Mia Matthews (age 2) and Grace Laguna (age 1) made Mr Jorgenson chocolate chip cookies and drew him pictures of rubbish trucks in anticipation for Thursday’s visit.
Mr Jorgenson had returned the favour of Thursday when he bought toy bins for the children to play with. Their day got even better when Bowen/Collinsville Family Day Care educator Kelly Williams invited Mr Jorgenson inside for a cup of tea.
Alfie described the visit as “just like meeting Spiderman”.
Every Thursday for the past two years, the children of Bowen/Collinsville Family Day Care have eagerly waited by the gate of their Mount Julian residence for Mr Jorgenson to collect their rubbish. His visits were recently acknowledged by the wider public when educator Kelly Williams posted a thank-you message to Mr Jorgenson on the Facebook group, Whitsunday Chat.
The post received over 300 likes and Ms Williams said she has since been stopped in shops by complete strangers, all agreeing that Mr Jorgenson’s zest for his job was much appreciated.
The children all said they looked forward to Mr Jorgenson’s future visits.
